AFNOR merges with UTE.

2013
Olivier Peyrat is appointed Vice-President (Finance) of the International Organization for Standardization.

2011
Claude Satinet is elected Chairman of AFNOR. François Ailleret is appointed Honorary Chairman (January 2011).

AFNOR Certification develops the identity of its certification brands, especially AFAQ and NF.

2009
16 June: Publication of Decree no. 2009-697 relating to standardization.

26 January 2009: all Ile-de-France region employees are grouped together at the Group’s head office in La Plaine Saint-Denis + photo of the building.

2006
Olivier Peyrat is elected Chairman of ISO’s Committee on Conformity Assessment (CASCO).

2004
23 December: AFNOR and AFAQ merge to create the AFNOR Group, which comprises three sales subsidiaries around the AFNOR Association.

1 October 2004: AFNOR hosts the CEN General Assembly in Lyon.

2003
François Ailleret is elected Chairman of AFNOR. Henri Martre is appointed Honorary Chairman. Olivier Peyrat is named Managing Director of AFNOR.

2002
Alan Bryden is appointed Secretary-General of ISO, taking over from Larry Eicher (USA).

1999
Alan Bryden is named Managing Director of AFNOR, taking over from Bernard Vaucelle.  

1995
The first AFAQ ISO 14001 certificate (environment) is issued.  

1994
AFNOR hosts the ISO-IEC General Assembly in Nice.

1993
Henri Martre is elected Chairman of AFNOR. Philippe Boulin is appointed Honorary Chairman. Creation of ICA (Auditor Certification Institute).

1992
The NF brand is extended to encompass food & drink and service activities.

1989
The first AFAQ ISO 9001 certificate is issued.

1988
Certification body AFAQ (French Quality Assurance Association) is created in response to the emergence of ISO 9000 standards designed to structure quality approaches and organizations. Jacques Texier is elected Chairman of AFAQ, and Olivier Peyrat is appointed Managing Director.

1984
April: Philippe Boulin is elected Chairman of AFNOR.

26 January: Publication of Decree no. 84-74 vesting AFNOR with a general-interest mission relating to standardization.

1977
Bernard Vaucelle is named Managing Director of AFNOR.

1961
23 March: CEN (European Committee for Standardization) is created by the national standardization associations of the countries of the EEC and EFTA. Secretariat duties are entrusted to AFNOR during the launch phase.

1949
AFNOR hosts ISO’s General Assembly at the Sorbonne in Paris.

1947
Creation of ISO (International Organization for Standardization). AFNOR plays a decisive role.

1943
Publication of a decree recognizing AFNOR as a registered not-for-profit association.

1939
AFNOR is authorized to issue the national NF mark to recognize conformity with standards.

1926
Creation of AFNOR, the French Standardization Association.
